The current Ecobee install employs the PEK for the reason that I feel there are actually only four or five wires likely from the thermostat to the furnace but I can rather conveniently increase a lot more wires if needed to get two levels (thermostat is almost directly higher than the furnace which is inside the unfinished basement).
